WELLINGTON ‒ A new plaque intended to honour fallen soldiers and educate the public has been installed just in time for Remembrance Day
Featuring the names of hundreds of deceased soldiers from across Wellington County, the Lest We Forget: Remembering Our Fallen Soldiers plaque was unveiled during county council Thursday morning.
"It's a wonderful opportunity to showcase Wellington County," said County Coun. Jeff Duncan, who came up with the idea, during the meeting. "And it's really just a reminder...about the sacrifices made for us to be here today."
A permanent display located in the hallway outside council chambers, County Coun. Chris White said there are almost 500 names taken from almost every community in the county.
"These folks are pivotal to who we are as a county and they've given the ultimate sacrifice," said White. "So to have them recognized permanently in the hall altogether, I think it's the right thing to do."
