CENTRE WELLINGTON – A cattle barn fire outside of Elora may have caused a lot of damage but it wasn’t a total loss.

Around 11 a.m. Monday, multiple fire departments responded to a barn fire on Wellington Road 7 at Swan Ridge Farms.

Around 12 p.m., smoke could be seen billowing out of one barn but cows could be seen in a nearby field.

Tom Mulvey, Centre Wellington fire chief, said in a phone call on Wednesday no cattle were lost in this fire.

The barn however is a total loss but the chief credited a quick response from fire departments with containing the fire to the single structure despite other buildings in close proximity.

Mulvey said malfunctioning heating equipment was determined to cause the fire and damage estimates are ongoing.
