ABOYNE – Groves Hospital will be getting a new CT scanner sooner than expected as a $2 million fundraising goal has been reached.
It was spring 2024 when the Groves Hospital Foundation told the community the hospital needed a new CT scanner, said foundation executive director Lori Arsenault.
Less than a year later, the foundation announced it has reached that goal thanks in part to over 600 donations including an anonymous $1 million donation.
“We’re very appreciative to the community, they’ve really stepped up,” Arsenault said in a phone interview. “We thought it would take a little longer for sure.”
In the meantime, the hospital has had a temporary mobile CT scanner in a portable and will still be used until the new scanner arrives. Arsenault said she expects it to come in the early spring but doesn’t have an exact date yet.
In addition to the CT scanner, Arsenault said the foundation is continuing to raise money for other hospital equipment totalling $1.9 million for the year from April 2024 to April 2025 as the hospital typically gives the foundation a new list for the year that month. So far they have received an additional $1.5 million.
“I think it really reflects the generosity of our community here in Centre Wellington and how much people value and appreciate the health care that they receive at Groves,” Arsenault said. “We’re very thankful for our very supportive community and loyal donors that continue to give every year to Groves.”
