FERGUS – The community is invited out to honour the life of a Fergus teen in light of recent developments in the case.

Lucas Shortreed’s family is holding a community gathering in memory of Lucas Shortreed on Oct. 10, Thanksgiving Monday, at Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home in Fergus from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m which would mark the 14th anniversary of his death.

Shortreed was 18-years-old when he was killed in a hit and run on a rural road near Alma as he was walking home from a party on Oct. 10, 2008.

Years went by in the case with no arrests until recently when David Halliburton and Anastasia Halliburton were charged in connection with the case. Charges against the couple have not been proven in court.

A post from Shortreed’s sister Jenneen Marie stated the family wants to thank the community for their ongoing support over the past 14 years.

“We would like to personally thank you for your support so please stop by our open house to promote healing, to give thanks and share the love alongside our fellow Centre Wellington community members,” a Facebook event post said.
