GUELPH – It’s the end of an era for a longstanding Guelph landscaping supply store.
Guelph Building Supply is closing its doors on Maltby Road, boardering with Puslinch, after 20 years in business.
The store closes for good on Christmas Eve, but the business isn’t going away. Guelph Building Supply is merging with its Orangeville counterpart, where the business will operate under the GO Timbermart Incorporated banner.
“It definitely wasn’t an easy decision,” Kaitlyn Jans, the general manager of the Guelph location said.
“It is a bittersweet thing, it’ll be good, we’re looking on the positive side of it too.”
She noted the decision hasn’t been in the works for long, and didn’t want to get into specifics.
In addition, an e-commerce platform is set to open early next year, as the business expands into the online sphere.
“It’ll hopefully make everybody’s life easier as well because they can just do it from their bed at home in the evening, sort of thing,” she said. “It’s kind of the new age and era where everybody shops online, so to be able to have that will hopefully boost sales and help us out too.”
Jans offered thanks to the Guelph and Puslinch customers for their loyalty and support over the years, and hopes to see them in the Orangeville area.
“It was always nice to hear everyone’s stories, and you create more of those personal relationships with people. It’s always really nice to have those things with your customers and help them out.”
