ABOYNE – One couple has given a gift that’s hard to follow.

Groves Hospital Foundation announced in a media release it received an over $500,000 donation from Alex and Deb Beath right before the holidays.

The Beaths are lifelong residents of Wellington County born in Guelph and currently living in Groves’ catchment area.

They owned and operated two businesses in Guelph, an electrical mechanical service business called Jefdin Enterprises and the recently sold oral rabies wildlife vaccine company Artemis Technologies.

The release stated after the sale of Artemis, the couple wished to show support for Groves hospital by funding nine items including a new ultrasound and PACS for diagnostic imaging.

“Hopefully the new items we funded will attract new physicians to the area, as well as retain the current staff, and allow them to provide better care for all patients,” Alex and Deb Beath said in the release. “Groves is close to our heart because both of our granddaughters, the lights of our lives, were born there.”

Foundation executive director Lori Arsenault said without these kinds of donations, Groves would not be able to fund the tools needed by staff to treat patients.

“Donors like Deb and Alex have a tremendous impact on the future of health care at Groves Memorial Community Hospital,” Arsenault said in the release.
