CENTRE WELLINGTON – Hundreds of donations totalling over $30,000 have poured in to support the families impacted by a recent fatal collision outside of Elora.

Separate GoFundMe fundraisers started for the families of Nicholas Law and Jason Henderson have raised over $25,000 and $6,000 respectively.

Law and Henderson were involved in a two-vehicle collision on New Year’s Eve, which resulted in the death of the 18-year-old Law.

Henderson survived but according to the GoFundMe was left with “severe injuries, requiring multiple surgeries already, with more required in the near future.”

The fundraiser said Henderson is the father to three children and is a minor hockey coach.

OPP said in a news release police responded just after 7 a.m. on Wellington Road 21 to a scene where a minivan and car collided head on.

“While Jason focuses on healing, his wife Melissa and his family are preparing to manage what will quickly become overwhelming travel costs, medical expenses and everyday living needs,” Henderson’s GoFundMe said.

In Law’s GoFundMe, his parents described him as “loyal, hardworking and an old soul” loved dearly by his family and large friend group.

“Nic was the type of kid who made friends everywhere he went, whether it was hockey, school or work,” his GoFundMe said. “He was at your doorstep whenever you needed help or a truck! He lived his life to the fullest and will be missed by all his friends.”

It also noted Law had a goal to become a heavy machine operator and was described by his current employer Ray Patenaude as having “this amazing ability to take in all the information given to him, process it and use it where needed. It’s like he had this amazing matrix inside his brain. He was smart, talented and a hard worker.”

The GoFundMe said the organizers want Law’s family to be able to provide him with the memorial he deserves, to honour his memory and say their last goodbyes.
