On July 15, Portage Ontario hosted their second Freedom from Addiction Golf Classic at Ariss Valley Golf and Country Club. Over 50 golfers and 15 teams took to the links on what turned out to be a beautiful day celebrating youth at Portage.

Lead Organizer Ashley-Ann Maginnis, associate director of development says, “the day was fantastic, and lot of fun was had! We are happy to say that due to this amazing community, we raised over $25,000! A huge thank you to our event sponsors, our hole sponsors, our prize sponsors, and our volunteers that made the day a huge success. We couldn’t have done it without all of you.”

Funds raised will stay with Portage Ontario to help it do what it does best – support youth across Ontario suffering from substance use disorders.

Portage welcomed a special guests, Sara Fortini, who received a $1,500 Portage bursary to help with her studies in behaviour sciences. “We are so proud of Sara for her bravery and honesty. It is so heartwarming when we get to recognize our youth for their hard work and dedication to live healthy, happy and productive lives,” said Ms. Maginnis.

Portage receives funding from the Ontario Ministry of Health and Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services. However Portage fundraises to pay for certain things that the government may not cover such as aftercare, bursaries for youth, outings that develop leadership and other aids that help them deliver a robust program that can help young people emerge successful.
