St. Joseph Catholic Elementary School in Fergus raised $6,000 for families in need during the holiday season.
The school raised the money through its Christmas Family Fundraiser where students made holiday cards and participated in festivities.
This is the 11th year the school has put on the fundraiser. The fundraiser happened on Dec. 12 and 13.
“When we started this at St. Joe's, we had probably about five families that needed help,” said Michael Burt, teacher at St. Joseph, in a press release.
“Now we are between twelve and thirteen - and we know there is always more support we can provide. So we keep additional money aside going into the new year for things like clothing and hygiene items, groceries - to help give things they need for the year. We've used money before to get kids into swimming lessons and involve them in activities and things they wouldn't otherwise be able to afford to do,” Burt continued.
Outside of the fundraiser students delivered cards to nursing homes.
Although the fundraiser is finished the school accepts donations for families throughout the year, the release said.
