ROCKWOOD — A farm southwest of Rockwood is looking for permission to host events such as weddings, food festivals, conferences, snow shoeing and cross-country skiing.
Guelph/Eramosa Township council will receive Sabine Viet’s application and the relevant report at the meeting on Monday at 1 p.m. regarding the site at 5028 Wellington Rd 44, an active farm.
The application is seeking a bylaw amendment to allow for “on-farm diversified use,” that would make hosting events on the property.
According to the Provincial Policy Statement, on-farm diversified use entails: “ … uses that are secondary to the principal agricultural uses on the property, and are limited in area. On-farm diversified uses include, but are not limited to, home occupations, home industries, agri-tourism uses, and uses that produce value-added agricultural products … ”
There are also areas on the property not zoned for farming which would allow for outdoor recreation, like cross-country skiing.
Attendance for events is capped at 75 people. There will not be a commercial kitchen on the premises, so food would have to be brought in. The site can accommodate 25 parking spots.
The plan involves a new septic system and existing well.
