ELORA – A long-time youth addictions recovery centre in Elora has announced it will be closing its doors.
Portage Ontario, which operates a youth rehabilitation centre on Irvine Road north of Elora, announced on social media it would be closing the facility due to “financial and economic challenges that, despite our best efforts, could no longer be overcome.”
According to the Portage website, the Elora centre was first opened in 1985. The social media post said it has helped hundreds of youth regain a better quality of life over the past four decades.
Portage is based in Quebec and operates rehabilitation centres for adults and youth there and in New Brunswick, alongside the Elora location which was its only presence in Ontario.
Requests for comment from Portage Ontario and the head office in Montreal were not immediately returned.
“This has been an incredibly difficult decision for all of us, but we remain committed to ensuring that our current clients continue to receive the care they need and have helped them transition to another Portage centre for the completion of their therapy,” the post said. “We would like to take a moment to recognize the efforts of all of those who have overcome addiction and taken back control over their lives.”
