The Elora Farmers' Market runs each Saturday from May to October at Bissell Park before moving indoors to Fergus for the remainder of the year.

ELORA – The Elora Farmers’ Market (EFM) is looking to move from Bissell Park to Wellington Place in Aboyne, as long as the proposed pavilion is built.

A report going forward at the information, heritage and seniors (IHS) committee recommends the committee approves the EFM’s request to move to Wellington Place.

Right now, the market is at Bissell Park running 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays from May to October and moves indoors to the Fergus Rugby Club for the remainder of the year.

“Given the growth of the market and the increased need for parking, accessibility, and covered space, the EFM would like to be central to the community, along the trail network and within the engagement space of the Wellington Place campus,” the report stated.

This is contingent on a proposed outdoor pavilion being approved and built in the near future.

The outdoor pavilion is planned to be built beside the Indigenous Gathering Circle near the Wellington County Museum and Archives to serve as an event space.

A recent meeting saw some councillors looking to defer or remove the pavilion from its plan but this was put off until future budget discussions.

“Should the move be approved by committee, the EFM would stay at Wellington Place for the entire eight months,” the report stated. “Should the pavilion not be approved, the market will not move to Wellington Place. Should the pavilion not be constructed in time for the May opening, the EFM will temporarily locate in the parking lot adjacent to the artifact storage building.”

This report will be considered by the IHS committee at its meeting on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at the Fergus library community room.

Full report can be found as part of this agenda.
