DRAYTON – There were no injuries but a home in Mapleton and the possessions inside were destroyed after a fire.
Nobody was home except family pets but they got out okay after a Wednesday evening fire on Wellington Street in Drayton.
Fire chief Rick Richardson said both Mapleton stations responded to a fire at 8:15 p.m. at a home where a mother and two children live. The Arthur fire station was also called in for assistance.
No people were home at the time and neighbours had heard the crackling and smoke alarms going off and they alerted emergency services.
Two dogs were home at the time but Richardson said they were able to get them out unharmed.
Crews remained on scene battling the fire late into the night until 3:30 a.m.
“It was in the walls, between the upstairs floor and downstairs floor,” Richardson said. “But we got it out.”
Richardson said although the structure is still standing the inside was “a total loss.”
The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
