NEWS RELEASE
TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON
*************************
The Downtown Shuttle Bus Program is back – with some exciting additions! Every weekend this summer, a shuttle bus will be available to transport visitors and residents to downtown Elora and Fergus. The shuttle bus will allow visitors to park in areas outside of our downtown cores and be transported – free of charge – to specific areas of the Township. The shuttle bus this summer will commence on Saturday, May 20 and end on Monday, Sept. 4. On long weekends, the shuttle bus will operate on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
This year, a tourism ambassador will be on board every single ride to provide support to visitors and residents while promoting our festivals, events, and local businesses! Another new feature on the shuttle this year is the rollout of our “Talent on Board” program. This program will feature local musicians with a focus on promoting emerging young talent as well as providing entertainment to those who use the shuttle. With these two new additions, we hope to create a memorable experience and set Elora and Fergus apart from other destinations.
“The Shuttle Program is a great way to alleviate the parking constraints in the downtown areas of Elora and Fergus during the busy tourist season.” says Mayor Shawn Watters. “Not only does this program reduce our carbon footprint, contributing to Canada’s goal of reducing emissions by 40-45 per cent by 2030, but it also acts on the goals of public transit which many Centre Wellington residents have asked for. I look forward to seeing tourists and residents take advantage of this free shuttle in the coming months.”
The shuttle bus will operate from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The shuttle will leave the Grand River Raceway every hour, beginning at 11 a.m., and the last trip will take place at 5 p.m. Once the shuttle has stopped at all the listed locations, it will return to the Grand River Raceway facility.
The shuttle will operate out of the Grand River Raceway, located at 7445 Wellington County Rd 21, Elora. Every hour – on the hour – the shuttle will leave this location and transport passengers to the following stops:
- MacDonald Square, Elora
- Elora Centre for the Arts/Bissel Park, Elora
- Wellington County Museum
- St. Andrew St. West Mall, Fergus
- Fergus Marketplace
- St. Andrew St. West Mall, Fergus
- O’Brien Park, Elora
The route will start over at noon, 1 p.m., 2 p.m., 4 p.m., and 5 p.m. daily.
