These three buildings on Woolwich Street in Guelph are owned by Wellington Catholic District School Board. The board said it's interested in consolidating its property holdings at these addresses and the County of Wellington has expressed interest.

GUELPH – Upgrades to the surface parking lot at the County of Wellington’s properties acquired from the Catholic school board are the only immediate plans at this time, says the warden.

The county officially bought 59, 69 and 75 Woolwich St. in Guelph, across from its administration building, for $5.56 million in May from the Wellington Catholic District School Board and formally acquired them on Aug. 31, according to a report.

Board staff will remain in one of the buildings until Sept. 30.

An administration, finance and human resources report stated work being done at these sites include:

  • Paving and painting the lot behind 59 Woolwich St. to create 14 dedicated parking spots for $10,000
  • Installing a parking arm for $25,000
  • Adding four electric vehicle charging stations behind 59 Woolwich St. for $18,000
  • Installing one security camera for $1,100
  • Two nighttime safety light standards for $24,000
  • Decommissioning 11 monitoring wells for $10,000

There are a further 25 parking spots around the other two buildings.

Warden Andy Lennox said in an interview at the administration centre these improvements to the surface parking lot are the only concrete plans for the immediate future.

“That’s all that’s happening currently, there are no longer plan terms other than perhaps using the buildings as is,” Lennox said.

He said what staff might be moving to that building is still under consideration.

At this time, Lennox said the parking lots are meant to be dedicated spots for county staff, councillors and visitors with no plans to open them up for public use in the evening.

Paving crews were on site Tuesday working on the parking lot behind 59 Woolwich St., with the report stating work is expected to be completed by the start of October.
