A spokesperson for Centre Wellington Township says the structure in the Elora greenspace that collapsed Monday was not a heritage building.
While she didn’t provide any details about the structure’s history, Kendra Martin, manager of strategic initiatives and communications, responded to an email inquiry from EloraFergusToday, saying the building “was not designated as a heritage building.”
Described as a barn-like structure by police, the building collapsed on Monday afternoon, possibly due to the weight of snow.
Martin said the township doesn’t own the Greenspace, also known as Harold Chamberlain Park, or the collapsed structure.
“The Township currently holds a lease for the Elora greenspace with Suncor, and we have been in communication with them regarding this matter,” Martin said.
The building was vacant and had not been in use, she said.
Township staff are waiting for an engineering report to determine next steps.
