Centre Wellington didn’t have to look too far for a new head of the fire department

At Tuesday’s council meeting, Thomas Mulvey was appointed as the fire chief of the Centre Wellington Fire Department.

Mulvey has been a member of the township’s fire department for over 25 years.

“Tom Mulvey was the deputy chief prior to this and was selected as the fire chief through a competitive process,” said Pat Newsom, managing director of community services.

“We’re excited to bring him on board, he has a lot of experience with Centre Wellington and as a senior officer.”

Mulvey is replacing Brad Patton, who will officially retire on Friday after nearly 18 years as chief.

Mayor Kelly Linton extended his thanks to both Mulvey and Patton at the meeting.

“Congratulations Tom, we’re in good shape with you as the fire chief and also congratulations to our outgoing fire chief Brad, happy retirement.” Linton said.

“Our fire department was in good hands before and will be in good hands in the future, thanks for all you do for us.”

Centre Wellington council unanimously approved the appointment.

“I am taking over the reins of an extraordinary team, and I could not be more honoured to lead a fantastic team of fire service professionals” said Mulvey in a press release. “I am eager to begin the next chapter of my career as Fire Chief, and would to thank Chief Patton for his mentorship and support over the past 18 years.  I look forward to serving the residents and visitors of Centre Wellington”.
