CLIFFORD – A weekend structure fire in Minto was found to be caused by careless smoking.

The Minto fire department reported the Clifford station responded to a garage fire in the town around 9:30 p.m. Sunday evening.

Upon arrival there was heavy smoke and flames coming out of the roof. Palmerston and Harriston fire stations were also dispatched and approximately 30 Minto firefighters were said to have attended the scene.

All occupants were out of the building and no injuries were reported.

No damage estimates are available as of yet but a press release stated an adjacent house and shed were saved with minimal exterior damage.

The release said careless smoking was determined to be the cause of the fire.
