Get ready to laugh. The Canadian Improv Showcase lands at the Fergus Grand Theatre on Friday, October 18th for one night only.
Improv is theatre that is made up by the actors on the spot, often using suggestions provided by the audience. It’s been made popular by groups like Toronto’s The Second City and shows like Who’s Line is it Anyway? The results are, of course, impossible to predict, but they are always funny.
The Canadian Improv Showcase is a professional touring comedy improv troupe, founded in 1997, that specializes in short-form or game-style entertainment. The show is 100% unscripted and guided by audience suggestions and participation - no audience ever sees the same show twice!
And it is important to note that they do not pick on their audience! Other groups have a track record of ridiculing their audiences, picking on people in the front row and even reducing them to tears. That is not the company’s style. Instead, The Canadian Improv Showcase is more classic vaudeville in nature, rather than edgy stand-up.
“If you’re looking for a cure from the Turkey hangover, this is it!” says Theatre Coordinator Eric Goudie. “I have been hoping to bring The Canadian Improv Showcase to stage for several years now. Improv is so funny, and so easy for an audience to really get into and enjoy.”
The Presenting with Purpose series continues throughout the 2024-2025 season, and features a dynamic array of music, comedy, and theatre, carefully chosen to showcase an eclectic, vibrant mix of the best and brightest in Canadian talent. After the laughter has died down from The Canadian Improv Showcase the next event up is the signature event in the series, Ridge, a moving tribute to the fallen, on November 8th.
Tickets for all shows are now on sale, and are available in the box office, by phone at 519-787-1981, or online at www.fergusgrandtheatre.ca.
