CENTRE WELLINGTON – A 100-year-old bridge north of Fergus is being demolished after being closed for many years.
The bridge on First Line between Sideroad 10 and Sideroad 15, officially called Bridge 24-WG, is being demolished starting Monday and will take approximately two weeks according to the Township of Centre Wellington.
Bridge 24-WG was built circa 1922 and was closed in summer 2018 due to severe structural deterioration.
The bridge will be replaced later this year. Council awarded the replacement tender to Finnbilt General Contracting Ltd. at $3.9 million in January 2023.
The project page on ConnectCW said the new bridge will accommodate two lanes of traffic and will establish a route for future traffic from First Line into the new Fergus business park.
More information can be found here.
Please be advised that the demolition of the existing bridge on First Line (Bridge 24-WG) will begin today, April 10, and will continue for approximately two weeks.
