EloraFergusToday received the following letter to the editor from Dianna Porter about her experience parking in Elora.
My first and last visit to Elora on Aug. 5, a holiday, was ruined when my new car was stolen from where I parked to have lunch with my family nearby.
We returned after an hour to find the car was gone, disappeared and no idea what had happened.
Our first response was to call the police. Then we noticed a small sign about private parking and tried to find out what happened to my vehicle.
We were trapped in a town, an hour from home with no transportation. The owner of a fish and chips store gave us the number of the towing company who had removed my car.
Not only did they charge me over $200 to get my car back, they made me walk to their garage 2 km away off a main highway.
I am a 78-year-old widow and nearly collapsed walking in the heat, and needless to say, I was very upset.
Is this the way Elora treats visitors? Parking is a major issue to people visiting your town and adding to the economy. You don't tow away cars and leave visitors stranded!
