Since 1994, The Rainbow Chorus of Waterloo-Wellington (RCWW) has created a welcoming space for the local 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
Since its beginnings as a small group of singers, The Rainbow Chorus has now blossomed into a 100-voice choir, whose purpose is to come together and share songs with the community.
Anyone is welcome to join the choir and no audition is required.
“Our mission is to be a welcoming space for the community to express themselves in song, build skill through the incredible musicians we work with and build community through bringing people together,” said Bobbie Belfry, community outreach and production chair of The Rainbow Chorus.
Operated by Alison MacNeill and Chris Fischer, the non-profit organization is well-supported by the community but could always use more help in its mission to showcase their members’ talents.
This support gives The Rainbow Chorus the resources to support its members and put on unforgettable shows in our region.
“We sang with the Guelph Symphony Orchestra at the River Run in April and it was a fantastic, sold-out evening. We joined them in their final performance of the year and sang five songs with them. It was fantastic,” Belfry shared.
“We also have a choir camp weekend where we learn more about music and about each other in a relaxing atmosphere,” she continued.
The community can help financially, through concert attendance, or simply word of mouth.
“By allowing us this space, I think we enrich the entire community,” Belfry said.
Belfry encourages those who are interested to come out and see one of The Rainbow Chorus’ shows. “The music is so fun,” she said.
“We love to be able to do what we do and we hope to become an important part of the musical fabric of the community,” Belfry said.
